■ TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • Athletes must be 18 years of age or older on race day to enter.
  • Athletes must have finished at least one triathlon race in olympic distance (51.5km) or longer within the last 5 years.
    (Copy of result or certificate need to be submitted at registration)
  • Athletes must have completed a healthcheck within the last year with no adverse results.
  • Athletes must attend one of the mandatory Race Briefings. Bike check-in is not possible without attending one of the mandatory Race Briefings and you will not be able to race.
  • Valid 2017 JTU license will be required for all athletes except relay team.

※You must be one of the following.

  • Existing JTU Member 2017 (membership card needs to be shown at registration)
  • Overseas athletes are required to pay JPY1,000 for a JTU One Day Membership at the registration on 10 June 2017.

■ RULES

IRONMAN rules, JTU rules, and local rules are applied.

*Missed course (Short cut)

Follow the prescribed course. Athletes must cover the prescribed course of swim, bike and run in its entirety. It is the athlete’s responsibility to know the course. If athletes miss the course, they are required to get back to the point they left the official race course and return the race. In this case, you won’t be disqualified. However if athletes miss the course and do not go back to the point they left the official race course, you will be disqualified. There is no adjustment for time to get back to the point.

*Drafting

(a) “Drafting” means to remain within the draft zone (as described below) of another athlete for a period longer than 25 seconds. Drafting during the Race is prohibited; (5:00 Minute Time Penalty)

(b) The bicycle draft zone is 12 meters long, measured from the leading edge of the front wheel and extending towards the back of the bike (6 bike lengths of clear space between bikes). Athletes may enter the draft zone of another athlete when passing and must continuously progress through the draft zone. A maximum of 25 seconds will be allowed to pass through the zone of another athlete; (5:00 Minute Time Penalty)

(ⅰ) Prior to entering the draft zone of another athlete, professional athletes must move to the side of the athlete being overtaken (i.e., no slipstreaming). Failure to do so will result in a drafting violation; (5:00 Minute Time Penalty)

(c) Athletes must remain outside of the draft zone (6 bike lengths between bikes) except when passing. Failure to do so will result in a drafting violation; (5:00 Minute Time Penalty)

(d) A "pass" occurs when the overtaking athlete’s front wheel passes the leading edge of the front wheel of the athlete being overtaken;

(e) The overtaking athlete may not back out of a draft zone after entering into it. Once an overtaking athlete enters the draft zone of another athlete, a pass must be completed; (5:00 Minute Time Penalty)

(f) An overtaken athlete must immediately drop out of the draft zone of the passing athlete, and must continuously make rearward progress out of the draft zone of the passing athlete. Re‐passing by the overtaken athlete prior to dropping out of the draft zone will result in an overtaken violation; (Stop‐And‐Go Time Penalty)

(g) Overtaken athletes who remain within the draft zone of the passing athlete for more than 25 seconds will be given a drafting violation; (5:00 Minute Time Penalty)

(h) Athletes must ride single file on the far‐right side (or left side depending on local law) of the bike course road except when passing another athlete (or for reasons of safety). Sideby‐ side riding is not permitted and may result in a drafting or blocking violation; (5:00 Minute Time Penalty or Stop‐and‐Go penalty)

*Time Penalty

(a) Failure to comply with any of the Competition Rules may result in an athlete being punished with a Stop‐and‐Go Time Penalty, a 5:00 Minute Time Penalty, disqualification from the Event, suspension from multiple Events, or expulsion for life from all Events;

(b) Race Referees will notify athletes of a rule violation by showing the athlete a colored card in combination with a verbal directive. Penalty card colors and their associated penalty is as follows:

(ⅰ) Yellow Card: Stop‐and‐Go Time Penalty;

(ⅱ) Blue Card: 5:00 Minute Time Penalty at penalty box (T2) ;

(ⅲ) Red Card: disqualification;

(c) Any athlete who accumulates three 3 blue cards will be disqualified. If disqualified, an athlete may finish the Race unless otherwise instructed by a Race Referee.
Even if there is violation to apply a stop-and-go, when it is determined that it can not safely be applied, a time penalty is applied.

*Others

・Disc brake bikes are allowed to use in the race.

・Para-athletes with visual impairment can be accompanied throughout the race by a guide regardless of their gender. (According to the previous rule, the guide was required to be same gender of the athlete.)

・If you wear the clothes with front opening / front zipper, you must zip it up above the epigastrium.

during the competition; if you will be pointed out, promptly zip it up or become disqualified. When you finish the race, you must zip it up to the top.

・Do not use mobile phones, smart phones, smart watches, wireless devices, audio players, recording equipment and communication equipment during the race, or become disqualified.

・If you throw out the garbage on the course, the blue card will be shown and 5:00 Minute Time Penalty will be applied.

*Wetsuit policy

For age‐group athletes, wetsuits may be worn in water temperature up to and including 24.5 degrees C/76.1 degrees F.

However, if the water temperature does measure to be above 24.5 degrees

C/76.1 degrees F (but is less than or equal to 28.8 degrees C/83.8 degrees

F) then, IRONMAN may, in its sole discretion, allow age‐group athletes to wear wetsuits and participate in a separate non‐competitive wetsuit wave/division, provided, however, that such athletes participating in the designated non‐competitive wetsuit wave/division will not be eligible for age‐group awards including, without limitation, IRONMAN World Championship slots or IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship slots);

Final water temperatures will be measured on race day and you will be notified before swim of the final decision on the use of wetsuits. Please take note that if the water temperature measures above 24.5 degrees C/76.1 degrees F and you still decide to wear a wetsuit, you will NOT be eligible for age‐group awards including, IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship slots.

For pro athletes, wetsuits may be worn in water temperature up to and including 21.9 degrees C/71.5 degrees F.

■ RELAY

  • Register the team captain first, and then register the team members. When you register the captain, it is necessary to set the team name and password. Team members can register to enter the team name and password that captain decided. Participation fee of the relay, the team captain will be the settlement on behalf of. (Registration of the team members are free)
  • Change of team members will be accepted until March 31.
  • min 2 max 3 participants
  • All athletes are required to participate in race beriefing.
  • Athletes of Relay teams are not obligated to exist JTU Member 2017
  • Entry fees of Relay teams are included insurance, welcome party tickets and award party tickets as number of Relay members.

Athletes confirmed in the race who wish to withdraw, must do so in writing to the race office via email info@ironman703.jp

  • Any requests received before 20 December 2016, 17:00 (JST) will eligible for 50% refund.
  • Any requests received before 31 March 2017, 17:00 (JST) will eligible for 20% refund.
  • Any requests received after 31 March 2017, 17:00 (JST) will not be eligible for refund under any circumstance.
  • Active fees (System service fees) at the time of entry is non-refundable at any time.
